Cardiorespiratory adaptations to physical exercise - November 2017 - Toulouse, France

Description

The muscles use different energy systems. The objective of the training is to describe them and to explain their interactions and modes of operation. These systems (alactic anaerobic, aerobic and anaerobic lactic) are accompanied by a cardiovascular and pulmonary adaptation relative to the intensity of the physical activity and to atmospheric conditions.

The training, which takes place at 1000-2000 m of altitude, will allow participants to perceive through practical exercises the particular adaptations linked to the altitude.

Content and specificities

The training is divided into three axis:

The physiology of resting: interactions between the lungs, the cardiovascular system and the energy production at the muscular level.

The adaptation of these different systems (muscular, pulmonary and cardiovascular) to physical effort and training will be illustrated by laboratory and field tests.

The effect of the short or long term exposure to altitude on the performance.

Objectives and competences developed

At the end of the training, the participants will have updated their knowledge in exercise physiology, in particular cardiorespiratory aspects.

Acquisition of physical exercise evaluation methods through the measurement of simple physiological variables (heart rate) and more complex ones (respiratory quotient, anaerobic threshold, VO2max).

The participants will be able to understand which are the factors limiting an effort and which are the underlying concepts to physical (re)training of a sedentary or physically active subject.

The training offers the basic knowledge required to attend a more specific training in rehabilitation, re-training after effort and optimization of the performance (therapeutic management of cardiac patients, patients with pulmonary deficiencies, diabetes, obesity, but also of athletes whether amateur of professional etc).

Method and course material

You will participate in interactive theoretical presentations in a conference room. The education materials are constituted of lecture notes and practical illustrations based on videos.

The theory will be illustrated in a concrete manner with the help of demonstrations and participatory exercises of measurements of gas exchange, sessions of exercise tests at different altitudes. The measures will be realized with the help of simple tools and more complex ones such as oxycon and echo-cardiography.
