Description

The mastering of palpatory anatomy is one of the foundations of the training of health professionals who practice clinical examination.

This knowledge is generally received at the beginning of their education and often fades over several years of practice. It is thus necessary to update the knowledge of this subtle art in order to remain performant in the accurate spotting of the anatomic structures and in this way refine the clinical examination as well as the correct execution of clinical tests of the musculoskeletal system.

Furthermore, the quantified three-dimensional analysis of the movement, which becomes more and more accessible, whether it is realised in a clinical or sports-related context, requires also the location and precise marking of the anatomic structures analysed.

This training is provided by anatomists, specialised in this type of teaching.

It is composed of rigorous theoretical introductions with plenty of illustrations and followed by interactive practical sessions which cover all remarkable ad palpable anatomic structures. Following systematic demonstrations, the participants will practice amongst themselves spotting and palpations, guided by two experienced teachers.

Objectives and skills developed

At the end of the training, the participant will have enhanced the following skills :

Apply the knowledge of the descriptive anatomy and topography to the reasoned handling of the clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system ;

Practise the palpatory examination of the joints and of all its related palpable structures in accordance with the structured palpatory procedures ;

Interprete in a critical and reasoned manner the haptic sensations collected during a palpatory examination ;

Within the framework of the preparation for a three-dimensional analysis of the movement, identify, palpate and mark the anatomical landmarksof surfaces recommended by the International Society of Biomechanics.

Content and specificities

Content :

Progressive refresher lectures of anatomic theory of the areas studied;

Theoretical and practical recall of the common clinical tests of the musculoskeletal system ;

Demonstration of palpatory procedure;

Palpation in pairs is guided and corrected.

Specificities:

For each area investigated, the participants will be accompanied and will practice the reproduction of a specific and rigorous palpatory procedure allowing them to locate and identify the different bony landmarks, soft tissue (ligaments, muscles, entheses, fascias ...) as well as neurovascular elements.

Direct and practical links with the most frequently encountered clinical pathologies will illustrate the specific palpatory procedures

Method / course material

Anatomic charts and photos of human dissection realised mainly at the laboratory of functional anatomy to which the teachers belong. Videos on the palpation of each of the areas investigated.

Duration
